His name was Ernie. Quiet, kind, but with a vision for the future. He reached out to me in my early teens asking me to read a scripture on the next Sunday during the church service. I was a pretty shy kid, but I thought I could give it a try.
Fast forward about 10 years where I began work as a youth pastor in my first church. Fast forward 25 years and my passion for mentoring young people has never been stronger. Hopefully my work leading FORGE Youth Mentoring will help thousands of kids like me reach for the stars.
I am grateful for Ernie’s trust and hope in me – and I’m thankful that I was able to see him in the hospital shortly before he passed to tell him how much he meant to me and how his guidance shaped my future… and still does, today.
